Ron Geesin presents the fifth of six programmes on the work of saxophonist Coleman Hawkins.
Hoisted and Hooked. Hawkins had a surprise hit in with his record Body and Soul, but, although he enjoyed being put on a pedestal, in the long term he found his artistic freedom was restricted.
This led to records ranging from soupy ballads with strings to lively bossanovas.
