Ron Geesin presents the fourth of six programmes on the work of saxophonist Coleman Hawkins.
Jumping Bean.
Hawkins's need for acceptance and applause, together with his passion for life, prohibited a purely contemplative attitude to his own musical progress. After over-zealous hot stomping in the early years, his energy by 1960 was greatly diminished and he tended to fall dangerously behind the beat.

Rich in history and tradition, it is also the cradle of the romantic image of Spain - land of flamenco dancing, Don Juan , Holy Week processions, the bullfight and, last year, in a bid for modernity and prosperity, Expo 92. In this documentary analysis,
Frank Smith examines the political and economic future of the area, with contributions from Deputy Prime Minister
Narcis Serra ; historians Professors Juan Pablo Fusi and Rodrigo de Zayas ; the Commissioner General for
Expo 92, Emilio Casinello ;
Alfonso Pajuelo , Director for Economic Planning for
Andalusia; and economist Professor Pedro Schwartz. Producer Judith Bumpus
