Otello was first given at Covent Garden in 1891. Since then it has had more than 150 performances, many of them with outstanding casts.
John Steane considers the long association of Otello with Covent Garden, illustrated by the recorded voices of FRANCESCO TAMAGNO, VICTOR MAUEL, GIOVANNI ZENATELLO, GIOVANNI MARTINELLI, LAURITZ MELCHIOR, JOAN CROSS, FRANK MULLINGS, MARGARET PRICE, TITO GOBBI and PLACIDO DOMINGO.
