One of the great innovators of jazz trumpet-playing. Eldndge is the vital historical link be. tween Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. In conversation with Charles Fox. he recalls his years with the bands of Fletcher Henderson , Teddy Hill and Gene Krupa , the tours with Jazz at the Philharmonic, and. in particular, his association with the saxophonists Chu Berry and Coleman Hawkins.
