David Bedford has been associated at various stages in his career with the worlds of the avantgarde, of rock music, and of school music-making. In this programme he introduces items spanning 12 years of composing, recorded at a London concert of his music in February 1979. ' There's an absolutely enormous difference in style between the earlier pieces and the more recent ones,' he says, ' and you may well wonder if they're by the same composer. Well, they are, and I hope my introductions will help to clarify why my work has developed as it has.'
