In 1708 the young 'Bach entered the service of Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Saxe-Weimar. His employment there lasted nearly ten years and gave rise to more than half of his organ music and a stream of church cantatas which together form the basis of this week's programmes.

Today's programme includes excerpts from the once famous Lamentations of Carpentras, which were regularly performed by the papal choir until displaced by those of Palestrina, and part of the very early St Luke Passion by an unknown English composer.
