Aaron Cicourel in conversation with Vernon Reynolds
Professor Cicourel from the Department of Sociology, University of California. San Diego, has carried out research into deaf languages in Britain, the USA and elsewhere. He talks to Vernon Reynolds about the implications of this research for linguistic theory, and about the relationship between signs and verbal speech. Producer MICHAEL TOTTON followed by an interlude
When Heine wrote his Doktor Faust he declared in his preface that Goethe in his version a few years before ' had wrecked the original Marlovian vision.'
BASIL ASHMORE , who has translated Heine's little-known version into English, argues that Busoni in his opera treats the Faust legend exactly in a way Heine would have approved.
