Despite being one of the busiest shopping streets in Europe, London's Oxford Street is one of the last major centres to get security cameras. As over a million pounds is lost every week to store thieves, and cases of street crime are constantly being reported, the police, the council and retailers have combined forces to install a £500,000 closed-circuit TV system. In this Crime Beat special Martyn Lewis reports on the problems they faced in installing it and looks at how important it will be in reducing crime figures.
