The third of a five-part series about Chris Patten's governorship of Hong Kong by Jonathan Dimbleby.

The talks with China collapse, but in Hong Kong, support for Chris Patten and his democratic reforms is undiminished, despite dissenters' opposition. With the help of Baroness Thatcher and other key players, tonight's programme explores Patten's inheritance - the 1984 Joint Declaration, under which Britain and China agreed terms for the handover. Under widespread pressure to back off, he introduces a Reform Bill.
