Last February Tomorrow's World told the moving story of the pioneering operation to fit Nicholas Carter , who was bom profoundly deaf, with a cochlear implant, a device that converts sounds into signals the brain can understand. The programme now joins him for his 5th birthday party. Thanks to the electronics inside his head, he can now hear distinct sounds and is attempting his first words.
Also, a report from the Gulf of Mexico on one of the most bizarre conservation experiments: in an attempt to boost dwindling fish stocks, marine biologists are constructing artificial reefs - built entirely from US Army M60 tanks made redundant by the Cold War.

The victim of a car crash, criminal psychologist Bill Chrushank, has his right arm replaced in a piece of pioneering surgery. However, plagued by mood swings and nightmares he is alarmed to learn the donor of his "new" limb was an executed killer - and Bill was not the only beneficiary!

British actress Lindsay Duncan plays the doctor whose ground-breaking work makes the transplants possible and who tries to calm the outlandish fears of Bill, played by Jeff Fahey from the hit sci-fi movie Lawnmower Man.
