Much is written about the break-up of the family, but for the Birches, a farming family in Derbyshire, the ties are as strong as ever. Julie and Nigel Birch and their children Alex (7) and Joseph (3) are the first of four families featured in this new series, showing in the Year of the Family, that records and analyses the way people behave at home.
The Birches are filmed preparing for Christmas, working on the farm and celebrating Christmas Day with their extended family - 18 will be sitting down to eat. And tonight the family joins occupational psychologist Professor Cary Cooper in the studio to discuss the film and listen to his analysis.
Also watching and commenting on the Birches' experiences are the Dawsons from Blackpool, who will be the last family in the series to have the cameras turned on them.
The next 'victims', the Champneys, will be visited in their South Wirral home on Friday at 7.00pm.
