First showing on network television for this mythic adventure from the creator of Star Wars.
Starring Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Warwick Davis

In a world of warriors and witches, fearsome beasts and fantastic beauties, young and peaceable farmer Willow Ufgood seems an unlikely hero. But he is destined to undertake a perilous journey to protect a baby princess and help conquer the evil Queen Bavmorda.

Heading the cast are Val Kilmer, who starred in The Doors, and Joanne Whalley (now Joanne Whalley-Kilmer), who is currently starring in Shattered and recently appeared with her husband Val in the film Kill Me Again.

The year of 1991 began with the world waiting for Operation Desert Storm and ended with Yugoslavia in tatters. In the months in between, hardliners in the Soviet Union tried to overthrow Gorbachev, and Boris Yeltsin emerged as an unlikely saviour. At home the Birmingham Six and the Tottenham Three were released after police evidence was discredited, and new Prime Minister John Major had to wrestle with the NHS, Europe - and Mrs Thatcher. It was also the year of a Japanese cultural invasion and Pavarotti in Hyde Park. A retrospective look at the main events of 1991, as reported by the BBC's news and current affairs team.
