The first showing on network television of Steven Spielberg's powerful adaptation of J.G. Ballard's epic autobiographical novel set in a Second World War Japanese concentration camp in China.

It is December 1941: eleven-year-old Jim Graham lives with his family in Shanghai's international settlement. But when the Imperial Japanese army marches into the city, the family's existence of privileged splendour is shattered, and they must flee for their lives.
In the turmoil, as thousands of refugees stream from the city, Jim is separated from his parents, and has to learn to fend for himself.
The screenplay was written by playwright Tom Stoppard, whose new film Billy Bathgate is released next month.
Look out for an appearance by Paul McGann, who starred in the acclaimed BBC drama The Monocled Mutineer.
