What did 1986 mean for you? For the superpowers, it meant the tragedies of the shuttle and Chernobyl - and for the rest of the world, a terrible reminder of what the price of progress can be.
For Mrs Thatcher, it meant the Westland affair and the loss of two cabinet ministers. For Cory Aquino, a chance to build democracy in the Philippines. For the Royal Family, it meant a wedding, and for people everywhere the chance to Run the World. For Anatoly Shcharansky and Nicholas Daniloff, it meant freedom.
Peter Snow looks back at the events and images of the year and talks to some of the men and women who made the news in 1986.
