Benares in India is to Hindus a place of pilgrimage, a holy city where most would hope to end their days. It attracts pilgrims from all over India, who come to purify themselves in the holy waters of the River Ganges.
Henry Wilson , a British photographer, has captured in his book Benares the human aspects of this city: religious ceremonies, street life, traditional crafts and colourful festivals. In today's programme Reginald Massey talks to him about his book and his experiences in India. Firoza Begum sings a Bengali ghazal.

Introduced by Jimmy Hill Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool
The feathers could fly at today's live coverage from the Canon League
Championship. The cockerel that looks down from his perch high above the White Hart Lane stand has seen all the glories of Tottenham football. Today he is challenged in his own roost by Liverpool's equally proud liver bird.
Tottenham's title hopes are gone, but Liverpool pursues a prime ambition - to take the Championship from Everton, as Everton did from them last year.
Rush and Walsh, Hoddle and Waddle are but four of the stars who will insist that not only viewers, but defence players too, stay awake this Sunday afternoon.

A ten-part natural history of Britain and Ireland.
Presented by Julian Pettifer 9: Sheltering with Man
Ever since our ancestors lived in caves we have shared our homes with wildlife. Today the cave swallow and cave spider are still living with us, as are woodworm and dry rot that came from the forest.
The familiar house sparrow and house mouse came with the first farmers, while black rats. ravens and kites flourished on the waste of medieval Britain.
Today foxes, bats, robins and blackbirds have left the dwindling woodland, and with cuckoos, sparrowhawks and badgers can be found thriving in suburbia. In the heart of London, kestrels raise their families and wild birds feed from our hands.
To the animals that live with us, our modern world is simply a backdrop for the natural drama of their lives. Photography ANDREW ANDERSON

Last in an Everyman series Ethiopia - Priests and Propagandists
'To change a man's mind, that is our most difficult job - it will really take time, but the Party is determined.'
(GIRMA YILMA , Minister of Culture)
Ethiopian Orthodox
Christianity has been the established religion in the country for over half of the 2,500-year reign of its emperors. When the Derg, a group of army officers led by Lieutenant-Colonel Mengistu, deposed the last Emperor, Haile Selassie , in 1974 and inaugurated Africa's first
Marxist-Leninist revolution, it was not at all clear what would happen to the Church. The Revolution has attempted dramatic changes despite wars, insurrections, drought and famine. Literacy campaigns, land reforms and workers' unions modelled on its ally, the Soviet Union, are all designed to create
'scientific socialism'. Yet the numbers going to church have increased, and the priests have found a new role, both as mediators in the civil wars, and in helping the famine victims.
