Benares in India is to Hindus a place of pilgrimage, a holy city where most would hope to end their days. It attracts pilgrims from all over India, who come to purify themselves in the holy waters of the River Ganges.
Henry Wilson , a British photographer, has captured in his book Benares the human aspects of this city: religious ceremonies, street life, traditional crafts and colourful festivals. In today's programme Reginald Massey talks to him about his book and his experiences in India. Firoza Begum sings a Bengali ghazal.
