First of four programmes
Two years ago, Rough Justice presented its investigation into three cases of murder, revealing extensive evidence that those convicted were innocent.
A Preston housewife was jailed for stabbing to death her teenage son, but forensic evidence pointed to a homosexual bondage murder. A South Shields man was convicted of killing a young girl on the evidence of a jumper, which the programme proved was not hers. A Scotsman was imprisoned for murdering a young woman despite having a clear alibi.
The issue of miscarriages of justice has provoked growing debate in public and parliament, and petitions by eminent lawyers have led to all three cases being officially investigated at the highest level. As a prelude to a new series of investigations Rough Justice reports on what has happened to the convicted people since the last series.
