She is still an active politician, as a Member of the European Parliament for Greater Manchester North and Leader of the British Labour group in Strasburg. In the first of four programmes she looks back on her early life in Bradford and at Oxford, on her first job as a shop assistant in the 1930s and on her decision to move to London to look for work.
