11.30 Search: Wales and the Americas: 1: Cambriol Newfoundland
America has held an almost magical attraction for men and women from Wales for hundreds of years. The myth of Madog takes us back at least as far as the 12th century. But we know for certain that in 1616 a group of Welsh men and women attempted to establish a new Wales, which they called Cambriol, on the island of Newfoundland. They were led by Sir William Vaughan, originally from Golden Grove in Dyfed. Today there is no trace of the Welsh in Newfoundland. What happened to them?

A silent, private world - fascinating as any fiction - where adders dance, grass snakes lay eggs in centrally heated compost and pencil-sized creatures wrestle tadpoles in garden ponds!
In this intriguing study, the camera observes intimate mating rituals and witnesses a remarkable event - an adder birth. It follows a hunt underground and joins a strange ' gathering' inside the vipers' den. It seems that the legendary 'serpent' is not quite what it's made out to be once you've untangled fact from fiction!
