A series of six programmes

In the depths of the Panamanian jungle 'Batman' extraordinary Merlin Tuttle has established contact with a strange intelligence - Trachops, the fringe-lipped bat! This space-age flying machine is equipped with an array of echo-location and decoding devices as elaborate as any spy plane. A sophisticated airborne hunter, it cruises with ease through the dense foliage of the tropical darkness, monitoring the communications of its amphibian prey.

Now, for the first time, high-speed photography reveals astonishing behaviour as Trachops identifies and pinpoints a croaking frog hidden behind the thick wall of night sounds. Once locked on target, it closes in with deadly accuracy to seize its prey from stream or pond. Incredibly, it can even swim and launch itself vertically from the water surface.
