The British Academy Award-winning series of ten programmes 4: The Story of Burke and Wills who crossed Australia from South to North in 1860-61 Written by ROBERT WALES Introduced by David Attenborough from the Royal Geographical Society, London.
The Royal Society of the Colony of Victoria chose Robert O'Hara Burke to make history by crossing the continent of Australia for the first time. But Burke had no experience as an explorer and soon there was trouble. After raging rows he fired his second in command and appointed William Wills to the job. Together they were to achieve ' the most disastrous success ' in the history of Australian exploration.
That marvellous series.
