Over the Derby Course of 16 imposing obstacles, including the fearsome Derby Bank, they ride for total prize money of £6,000 in the competition which the incomparable Harvey Smith won last year in a blaze of publicity.

Tommy Aaron (US) v Roberto de Vicenzo (Argentina) at Carnoustie

As the series nears its climax, de Vicenzo meets the man whose mistake may have cost him the American Masters title. Aaron made an error on Roberto's card and the Argentinian failed to check it: thus he was disqualified and forfeited his chance of a play-off with Bob Goalby.
