The second of six programmes about what happens to more than one in three marriages. Past Loves, Past Lives. In this film, Roger Lee Brown , a vicar and historian from South
Wales, charts an irreverent and surprising journey through the troubled history of marital break-up in Britain. It involves spying private detectives, children abandoned in homes and the shunning of those stigmatised by divorce. Lord Hailsham and Leo Abse explore how divorce reform eventually changed the scene, but as Roger Lee Brown shows, even when divorce was illegal, people always found a way to rid themselves of unwanted spouses.
