Douglas Hawkridge
Douglas Hawkridge , who was born in Derby, received his first church engagement when fourteen years old. At the age of eighteen he entered the Royal Academy of Music on an exhibition, where he studied under Claude Pollard for piano, and Dr. Stanley Marchant for organ. He spent seven years at the Academy, first as a student and later as a sub-' professor.
Hawkridge has done a good deal of broadcasting, having been heard playing from St. Mary-le-Bow in the Savoy Hill days, and also from the old Nottingham station, from which he broadcast a number of piano recitals while still at school.

* 'Take-all' and 'Silver Leaf'
B.A. Keen, F.R.S.
This afternoon Dr. B.A. Keen is going to talk about some of the various fungi that attack fruit and crops, and constitute a grave menace to the farmer and fruit-grower.
Certain fungi are harmless, hut a great many more are dangerous in character and rapid in their action upon otherwise healthy plants. Dr. Keen will discuss the deadly 'take-all' fungus of wheat, describe its life history, and outline the various attempts that have been made to control it. He will treat in a similar way the 'silver leaf' fungus that attacks fruit trees.

broadcast from a Surrey wood
The song of the nightingale is a familiar feature of the woodlands at this time of the year, when it is at its sweetest and most consistent. There have been broadcasts of the nightingale's song in the past, and once again this king of the bird songsters is to be given his chance to sing by radio firesides. Microphones will be placed in a Surrey wood famous for its nightingales.
There will be further nightingale broadcasts on Tuesday and Wednesday during the evening programme.
