Rudolf Rassendyll , the yoimg Englishman who found himself caught up in a network of intrigue owing to his close resemblance to the King of Ruritania, is by now thoroughly committed to his extravagant plan of action. You have heard how he impersonated the King at the Coronation, and how King Rudolf was abducted by his half-brother Duke Michael and the latter's close friend Rupert Hentzau. Rassendyll has fallen in love with the beautiful Princess Flavia, and though tempted to leave the King to his fate and take the Crown, he defies this temptation and plots with Sapt and Fritz von Tarlenheim to rescue the King.
Last week you heard how
Rupert Hentzau proposed a plan for an attack on the Castle of Zenda where the King was imprisoned, the result of which would be the deaths of Black Michael and the King, leaving Rassendyll on the throne with Flavia as his consort. Needless to say, Rassendyll turned down the scheme.
In today's instalment you will hear how Rassendyll again meets Johann, Duke Michael's servant, and decides that an attack on the Castle must- be undertaken forthwith.

broadcast from a Surrey wood
Once again microphones will be placed in a secluded strip of Surrey woodland at a time when the evening chorus of the birds is at its sweetest. Not even the countryman can necessarily distinguish the various songsters. There will be an expert on bird-song in the woods this evening, and he will identify each song heard.
Another bird chorus will be broadcast next Sunday, and the nightingale will be heard on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week between eleven and twelve each evening.
