Listeners are to hear a broadcast from the Lyceum Theatre of three scenes from Queen of Hearts: the Terrace in the Palace Garden ; the Police Station, and the Market- Place of Heartland As the first half-hour of the pantomime is not being broadcast, it may help listeners to give them the threads of the story.
The Royal Baby, heir to the Kingdom of Arcady, is exchanged for the Yellow Dwarf, son of the Witch. The Fairy (Margot Thomas ) vows to protect the royal child.
Eighteen years pass, and the Queen of Hearts (Clarkson Rose ) makes some tarts for the Yellow Dwarf (Arnold Bell), who is visiting their fair lands to ask for the hand of their daughter, the Princess of Hearts (Anne Leslie ), in marriage. The King of Hearts (Bernard Ansell ) informs her that she has to marry the Yellow Dwarf, Prince Leander of Arcady. She will not agree..... A Fairy touches one of the tarts and tells the Princess that she will wed the man who eats it. The Knave of Hearts (Albert Burdon ), in love with the Princess, steals the tarts. When the Yellow Dwarf arrives, it is found that the tarts have been stolen..... and so to the first scene of the broadcast.
On the Terrace in the Palace
Garden the Fairy tries to cheer the Princess and promises great happiness for her-happiness which is to come through Valentine, the real prince of Arcady (Nancy Fraser ). The Police Station introduces those fine crazy comics, Dave and Joe O'Gorman. The Market-Place shows the entrance of Valentine, who eats the magic tart. There is a dramatic scene between Valentine and the Yellow Dwarf who orders his arrest and death. In an operatic finale the Princess promises to marry the Yellow Dwarf if he frees Valentine.
