An appeal on behalf of THE STUDENT MOVEMENT HOUSE, by the Rt. Hon. Earl BALDWIN OF BEWDLEY, K.G.
Started in 1917 as a war memorial to British students killed in the Great War, the Student Movement House is the only club in London for students from any University in the world. The membership consists of nearly one thousand students from over fifty different countries. Club rooms, a library, and restaurant are provided in the club building ; lectures, concerts, and discussion groups are regular features of club life.
In April the club house is to be pulled down to make way for new buildings for the University of London. The sum required to find new quarters and provide a small endowment is E55,000, of which £18,000 has already been raised. When the fund reaches £25,000 Lord Nuffield has promised to give a further £25,000.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to Earl Baldwin of Bewdley, [address removed]

'Monsieur Madeleine' in which Henry Ainley plays the part of Valjean
Baliol Holloway as Javert
Play produced by John Cheatle
Tonight the second instalment of Les Miserables picks up the story of Jean Valjean, who, after serving nineteen years in the galleys for stealing a loaf of bread, is spiritually redeemed by the saintly old Bishop of Dauphine (a part played by C.M. Hallard last week).
Last week this part of the story was told, and listeners heard how, while serving his inhuman sentence, Valjean was again and again savagely lashed by Javert, a brutal slave-master of the galleys, and how, after his redemption, Valjean determined to be a changed man and to begin his life anew under a different name.
In today's instalment you will meet him again as a benevolent mayor and factory employer of the town of Conthill, in Lorraine, and you will hear how he once more meets with his erstwhile tormentor, Javert.
3-The Rhine
The series devised and conducted by Walford Hyden
Cast
Walford Hyden and his Orchestra with Leila Finneberg and Gabriel Lavelle
In tonight's broadcast, another in Walford Hyden 's series about European waterways, listeners will hear about the river Rhine. Once again a company of friends will assemble on board Henry Audin 's private boat to listen to the reminiscences of this eccentric old man who travelled about Europe with his orchestra in pre-war days.
These are essentially restful programmes. In the comfortable lounge of the ship, to the background of music from a trio, Audin's friend Alec and Alec's niece Florence listen to the legends and tales of the river on which their boat lies.
