(6) A serial reading from Herman Melville's ' Moby Dick ' by Geoffrey Tandy
The Pequod, now in the neighbourhood of Formosa, has to look to the oil barrels stowed in the hold because they are leaking. Queequeg contracts a fever from working down there in the slime, and, thinking he will not survive, has himself measured for a coffin, which is made by the ship's carpenter. He tries it out to make sure it will be comfortable, and equips it with biscuits and water.

World History
' Romans and Barbarians '
T. W. H. HOLLAND
Some 15,000 years ago, when the might of Rome had faded under its weak Emperor Theodosius, the Huns, under their King, Attila, ravaged the boundaries of the Empire and even threatened to destroy Rome itself. This afternoon listeners will hear how ambassadors from Rome were received by King Attila in the wooden hut which did him duty for a palace. This story of how the Roman Emperor strove to kill his enemy by bribing his personal servant to do the deed, is one of the most famous in ancient history.
