This afternoon C. R. Stonor will describe some of the commoner birds, such as are met with in almost any garden, and the conditions in which they are most usually seen. The broadcast, which will be illustrated with recordings of selected bird voices, will deal particularly with wrens, starlings, blackbirds, and robins.

For many years Haydn served the great Austrian family of Esterhazy as Kapellmeister. At his palace at Eisenstadt, Prince Esterhazy had his own chapel, opera house, and concert hall, for which Haydn composed a great deal of music.
The opera The Uninhabited
Island was written by Haydn in honour of the name-day of his royal patron. The overture begins with the traditional slow introduction which gives way to a lively section. Then comes a quieter and more expressive section which is taken from one of the scenes of the opera representing the uninhabited island itself. )
John Ireland's Piano Concerto was first performed at a Prom concert in 1930. In construction it adheres neither to the classical sonata form nor to the cyclic form of Liszt, though elements of both are noticeable in its design. Unlike most other concertos, the music contains little showy writing for the solo instrument, although the themes are clothed in rich ornamentation. It possesses, however, a grace and lyrical charm that is not always an outstanding characteristic of Ireland's orchestral music.

This evening's broadcast in the ' Farming Today ' series has a topical ring, for it will cover the annual Smithfield Show which is being held
. this week. F. Rayns will have with him at the microphone A. Stimpson , who probably knows more about these eattle shows than any other man living. He has attended over forty of them, and is well known throughout East Anglia as one of its leading cattle men. He feeds cattle both on the grass and in the yards of his farms near Great Yarmouth, and for some years was a salesman at Smithfield Show.

Earl Baldwin has agreed to broadcast an appeal tonight to all men and women of goodwill in this country, whatever their race or creed, to do what they can to lessen the human suffering caused by the eviction from Germany, in a destitute condition, of hundreds of thousands of Jews. Many Christians, called non-Aryans because of even distant, relationship to Jews, have also been persecuted, and the need, misery and suffering is beyond belief.
