This is the second of F. McDer mott's three broadcasts on various aspects of India. Listeners will remember how in his previous talk he spoke about his young friend, Ram Krishna , who looked after the lovable old water buffalo, Kalu. Today he will recount how Kalu wanders at nightfall among the scrubby little trees and thin grass of the Rajputana jungle, and how the poor old water buffalo is suddenly faced with a pair of gleaming eyes. Kalu meets his end, but vengeance is done when the prowling tiger which dispatched him is in its turn laid low by the white man's rifle.

In his talk this afternoon Eustace C. Holden will describe how he and his two sons totally reorganised and ran the kitchen of his British Columbia home when his wife was away in hospital. They were a busy and all-male household, and they reorganised not because they wanted to change the kitchen arrangements, but because they had no time to run the nerve-centre of the house in the old way. Housewives and others may learn a lot from this account of how three men tackled in a labour-saving way the question of kitchen-fittings, cooking, and the all-important operation of washing-up.

The horn is one of the most difficult instruments to play beautifully. Probably this is the reason why its solo repertoire is so small.
York Bowen, like Richard Strauss , studied the horn in his early days-he studied under the late Adolph Borsdorf at the Royal Academy of Music. His practical knowledge of the instrument has induced him to write two notable works, the first a Quintet for horn and strings, and the second, his latest composition, a Sonata for horn and piano, which will receive its first performance this evening. The full range of possibilities of the instrument is exploited in this sonata. The first movement is very lyrical, while the second movement, in the style of a fantasy, is solemn in character, with some notable effects in the tone of the horn. The finale is of a scherzo-like gaiety that is full of difficulties of execution for the hornist.
