1 Vivace ma non troppo. 2 Adagio. 3 Allegro, molto moderato
Sonata Movement in C minor Brahms
Brahms's Violin Sonata in G was the first of three sonatas for violin and piano. Composed during the summer months of 1878-9 while Brahms was on holiday at Portschach, it is a fine work, particularly from the point of the writing for the violin, which has the predominant part. 'The whole work', says Dr. Karl Geiringer in his study of the life and work of Brahms, ' reflects the atmosphere of the beautiful Carinthian holiday resort where it was created. It is a composition full of restrained sweetness and that yearning tenderness which-as so often in Brahms — seems to smile through tears.'
The Sonata Movement in C minor is a vigorous scherzo forming the third movement of a violin and piano sonata which was composed by Dietrich (first movement). Schumann , and Brahms (third movement), ' in anticipation of the arrival of our beloved and honoured friend, Joseph Joachim '. The whole sonata was broadcast for the first time on July 30.

During his two years as BBC Staff Theatre Organist Reginald Foort has given 405 broadcasts, either solo or with other artists, to Home and Empire. He has introduced 72 guest organists to the BBC Theatre Organ and has put on many popular shows, such as ' Rhythm Music', ' The Organ, the Dance Band, and Me ', Radio Song Sheets', and such novelty shows as ' My Dream Garden ', ' Musical ABC ', ' Fan-Mail Favourites ', and ' Melodies of the Moment'.
Foort, who claims that these two years have been the happiest and busiest of his life, is looking forward to broadcasting quite frequently in the future, both on the BBC Theatre Organ and on his new travelling organ. H. H. Brookes was born in Norwich. He is the elder son of the late H. J. Brookes , who was one of the leading lights of Norwich musical life and who in his early days was associated with Elgar. Although the son has already made a name for himself as a composer, his real profession is that of assistant accountant in an insurance office at Norwich. A few months ago Joseph Lewis gave the first broadcast performance of Brookes's orchestral suite ' Three Midsummer Dances '. His latest composition, Norvic is a processional march named after the city of his birth and is dedicated to Sir Henry Holmes , a local patron of music.
