G. T. Pattman 's tone poem ' Cinderella ' was written for, and first performed at, the Bridlington Musical Festival of 1903. The music is intended to suggest the loneliness and despondency of Cinderella in the kitchen ; the transformation of the mice and pumpkin into the footmen and coach ; the coach galloping off to the ball ; the meeting with the Prince; their waltz together which is interrupted by the striking of midnight ; the loss of the slipper, finishing up with a bridal procession.

A Commemoration of his
Achievement
Speaker, Alfred Hill
Arthur Catterall (violin) ChaconneGiovanni Baitesta Vitali
(1644-1692)
It is not known for certain where or when Antonio Stradivari was born, but available evidence fixes the date of his birth at 1644. The inscription on the house in Cremona where he lived for many years and died in 1737 states that he 'brought the violin to perfection and left to Cremona an imperishable name as master of his craft ! '
Alfred Hill, a great authority on Stradivari, will talk tonight on Stradivari's inheritance from the Amatis, with details of what it was that he added to their experience which makes his instruments without peer, and will give an estimate of the number of instruments he made and of those still in existence.
Listeners will hear the tone qualities of a Strad when Arthur Catterall plays Vitali's ' Chaconne' on his own instrument.
