The captain of a cargo boat is just back, within the last few days, from the Mediterranean. He will come to the microphone to tell listeners just what cargo he has brought back, the ports he called at, and something of his voyage home.

In the Middle Ages there were several kinds of local law courts, such as the Court of the Manor and the Shire Court, where a man might try to get justice. Besides these there were the king's own special courts in the Palace of Westminster. People found that they usually got fairer treatment in the King's Courts than anywhere else, especially after Henry II began sending his travelling justices round the country.
In today's broadcast you will hear how those who broke the peace were tried and punished in the King's Courts.

The Symphony No. 2 in D, composed in 1902, shows Sibelius striking out on new lines. Although this
symphony is cast in the usual four movements, each movement, particularly the first, is designed for the most part on new principles of musical form. Instead of the announcement of two or three self-contained melodies that are developed and then restated, Sibelius begins with melodic fragments and then proceeds to combine them into a melodic whole in the course of the movement. The procedure is really the reverse of the classical and romantic methods of symphonic construction.

Austria v. England
A commentary during play from the Waldorf Hotel
This is the second broadcast in connection with the match of three hundred hands that is being played at the Waldorf Hotel between Austria and an English team. It began last Saturday night, October 23, and a commentary was given in the afternoon on a preliminary exhibition match. This afternoon (the closing day of the competition) listeners are to hear a commentary on two hands in actual play. Being duplicate bridge, exactly similar hands are played simultaneously in two separate rooms, Austria in one room having hands which the English team are playing in the other, and vice versa. Thus each pair of players has their skill tested, with both weak and strong hands.
The commentators will be able to tell listeners the hands dealt, to give the calling, and so forth, and should be in a position to say who the probable winners will be. They are the same commentators, T. Woodrooffe and Ronald Symond , who gave the commentary on a game at the Savoy in the Daily Alail Bridge Competition.

Davis v. Inman
A commentary during play in the handicap competition by Willie Smith from Thurston's Hall
Listeners are to hear a commentary on the opening game of this evening's session in the seventy-one-game match being played by Davis and Inman this week at Thurston's in the Daily Mail Gold Cup Tournament that was organised by Tom Webster. Davis is world snooker champion and plays from scratch. Inman has the very generous handicap of 45 points a game.
This is the fourth year of the tournament. In its first two years it was confined to billiards,. changing over to snooker last year. Up to this year it was a sealed handicap, but now the handicap is disclosed on the marking board.
The tournament began on September 27 and is due to finish on January 29 next year. It is hoped to broadcast a commentary on one of the games played between Lindrum and Newman on December 13, and on one between Davis and Lindrum on January 24.

at the BBC Theatre Organ Popular Medley of Tunes, Old and New
Harold Smart was first heard on the BBC Theatre Organ last April when he played in ' First Broadcasts '. So highly does Reginald Foort think of him that he arranged this solo broadcast for him today, and Harold Smart will be the first boy organist to broadcast on this already famous organ, apart from that experimental series 'First Broadcasts '. He started playing the piano at the age of five, and has been studying the organ for nearly two years under his father, Charles Smart , well-known cinema organist. Harold, not yet sixteen, has just been appointed permanent organist at the Odeon, Haverstock Hill.
