' The Romance of League Football'
WALTER BURY
This evening Walter Bury , who Rave a Sports Talk on the badging of race-horses some little time ago, is to trace the romantic history of the Football League, which was formed in the year 1888, with twelve leading clubs of the day represented in it, the present Notts County Club being the oldest.
He has interesting stories to tell of several of those original clubs-of Preston North End , of the Wolves, of Stoke, of Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa (two clubs that have always figured in the First Division). Followers of Tottenham Hotspur will learn the history of the rooster that perches on a large copper football on top of the grand-stand at White Hart Lane ; Arsenal followers will learn why their colours are red; and Bolton Wanderers fans how their club first started with a subscription of a penny a week.
The rise of the eighty-eight League Clubs of the four Divisions from humble beginnings into the present-day strength is indeed romance, as listeners will hear this evening.

GERALDO AND HIS ORCHESTRA
(By permission of the Savoy Hotel, Ltd.) with WEBSTER BOOTH
ANGELA PARSELLES
THE GERALDETTES and THE TOPHATTERS
This evening Geraldo, who has won fame for his ' Dancing Through ' and ' Chateau de Madrid ', is to give the first of three broadcasts under this title. Much as Frank Black did in 'Five Hours Back Geraldo aims at showing what good melodies lie hidden in the modern dance tune, usually sacrificed to the accentuation of the dance rhythm. In these shows listeners will hear how a large orchestra such as Geraldo can convert the slightly monotonous native rhythm of a dance tune into the big sweeping phrases of a symphony.

Part 2
Relayed from Queen's Hall, London (Sole Lessee, Messrs. Chappell and Co., Ltd.)
PETER DAWSON
THE BBC
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Principal violin, MARIE WILSON
Conducted by SIR HENRY J. WOOD
Facade ' was originally conceived as a series of poems by Edith Sitwell to be recited through a megaphone with musical accompaniment by William Walton. These accompaniments are all in the form of very clever and witty ; parodies of popular dances, from the Polka to the Foxtrot. The success of the music necessitated some of the best numbers being separated from their context and turned into an orchestral suite, which has since proved one of William Walton 's most popular works. (Soloist, PETER DAWSON> ) Tickets can be obtained from The British
Broadcasting Corporation, Broadcasting House, Portland Place, W.i, Messrs. Chappell's Box Office, Queen's Hall, Langham Place, W.I, and usual agents. Prices (including entertainments Tax); 7s. 6d., 6s., 5s. (reserved); 3s. (unreserved) ; promenade (payment at doors only), 2s.
