THE BBC
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Facade ' was originally conceived as a series of poems by Edith Sitwell to be recited through a megaphone with musical accompaniment by William Walton. These accompaniments are all in the form of very clever and witty ; parodies of popular dances, from the Polka to the Foxtrot. The success of the music necessitated some of the best numbers being separated from their context and turned into an orchestral suite, which has since proved one of William Walton 's most popular works. (Soloist, PETER DAWSON> ) Tickets can be obtained from The British
Broadcasting Corporation, Broadcasting House, Portland Place, W.i, Messrs. Chappell's Box Office, Queen's Hall, Langham Place, W.I, and usual agents. Prices (including entertainments Tax); 7s. 6d., 6s., 5s. (reserved); 3s. (unreserved) ; promenade (payment at doors only), 2s.
