The members of the expedition are hemmed in by evil voices, which come closer all the time. But just as an unknown danger seems to be imminent, a man is seen walking towards them through the snow-mist. The voices fade and disappear. This man is Nagari, a holy man from the monastery of Chagpori. He gives them shelter in a cave, and in the morning guides them through a rocky tunnel-higher and higher into the mountain.
