Captured by Lobsang, the robber chief, who has a proper Tibetan sense of humour, the Atom Chasers and their friends are given a sporting chance to avoid being held to ransom. The Major, as a former marksman, and Sandy, as athletic champion of his school, prove their prowess, and the expedition is allowed to go on. As they approach the snow-clad slopes of the Iron Mountain, they hear a strange wailing noise.
