Inish is a small seaside town somewhere in Ireland, of not much importance except during the three summer months, when it is a point of attraction for people seeking sea-breezes and a holiday. It has only one hotel of any size - the Seaview Hotel -owned by Mr. John Twohig, the most important man in the town. It is in his sitting-room that the action of the comedy takes place.

During the critical time of reconstruction in the early '20s Sir Ernest Simon was Lord Mayor of Manchester, and first Chairman of its Housing Committee. This evening he discusses questions of rebuilding that lie ahead.
