Quartet in G (Op. 161) played by the Blech String Quartet : Harry Blech (violin), Max Salpeter (violin), Keith Cummings (viola), William Pleeth (cello)
The G major Quartet, Op. 161, was Schubert's last string quartet. It was composed in 1826, two years before his death. Both in technique and in feeling it foreshadows the romantic style of later composers, especially in its harmony, which is closely woven in texture and very * advanced ' for the period.
