Talk by Inman Race , a navvy
This is the first of a series by Northerners who are working on essential jobs. Inman Race became a navvy from choice after sampling a dozen other jobs, so he is well qualified to describe the art of handling pick and shovel in what he contends is ' the most skilled and unskilled labour in the world

Music for modems, featuring Jack Payne with his Orchestra,
Peggy Cochrane , Bruce Trent , and Stephane Grappelly. Produced bv David Miller
These ' Music for Moderns ' programmes set out to keep pace with the very latest fashions in up-to-date gay music-making. Of particular interest this evening will be a performance of the theme of Richard Addinsell 's ' Warsaw Concerto ', written in the first place for the film Dangerous Moonlight.
The concerto quickly took the popular imagination, and has proved one of the rare examples of a piece of film music that can stand on its own. Wherever the film was shown hundreds of people wrote demanding where the original concerto could be obtained.
Richard Addinsell has composed musical scores for many other popular British films, including Fire Over England, South Riding, The Amateur Gentleman, and Goodbye, Mr. Chips.
