(Section A)
Leader, Paul Beard
Conductor, Sir Adrian Boult
Solomon (piano)
Rerlio/s genius is shown at his best in his Dramatic Symphony 'Romeo and Juliet ', which was first performed in 1839. The two pieces to be heard this evening are brilliant examples of picturesque tone painting. The 'Queen Mab' scherzo is worthv of a place alnnff.de Mendelssohn's Scherzo from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', and 'Capulet's Fett'. which describes
Romeo's entrance to h.s enemy . house while the festivities are at their highest, is a truly vivid conception of the scene.

A new edition of the Littlest Re.vue with Madeleine Christie , Jack Drummond , Jack Sinclair , Edith Stevenson , James Urquhart , Mollie Weir , Cyril Wells
Produced by Moultrie R. Kelsall
The revival of this popular series is particularly appropriate now that the evenings are drawing in, and most of the daytime workers' leisure time is spent behind drawn curtains. Listeners may remember that producer Moultrie Kelsall filled these revues in miniature with a sequence of songs and lightning sketches, each with a pungent-and in some cases a refreshingly unexpected--climax.

Mass for three voices (1588)
Sung by the BBC Singers
Conductor, Leslie Woodgate
I Kyrie Eleison. 2 Gloria in Excelsis. 3 Credo. 4 Sanctus. 5 Benedictus.
6 Agnus Dei
Byrd composed three Masses, but the when and wherefore remain clouded in obscurity. Even the dates of publication are not known. The chief character of these Masses in general, and the three-.part Mass in particular, is the flowing beauty of the part-writing and the freedom of the rhythm, which had yet to become so rigidly tied to the bar line as it is in modem times.
Another feature worth noticing is that each melodic line is a self-contained melody, but at the same time the melodic lines are combined so artfully that they form a sequence of beautiful harmonies.
