' The Small Pig Keepers' Council' by John Green and Cedric Drewe , M.P., Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture
John Green , who has put pig-keeping on the air and who himself is a breeder of Gloucester Old Spots, is to bring to the microphone the Chairman of the Small Pig Keepers' Council which was formed last November with Green as Vice-Chairman, with the slogan ' Save waste and make food ', and the following message from the Minister of Agriculture: ' I ask you if you can, keep a pig. If you already have a pig, then perhaps you can keep two.'

1 - 'Call for an Author' by Lyn Durham
Scene: On a yacht at anchor
Characters:
Johnny Lee and the Seaman
2 - 'Big Moment' by Norman Holland
Scene: Andy Madox's dressing-room in the Marathon Stadium, immediately before the Rogers-Madox clash or the Lightweight Championship of the World
Characters:
Andy Madox, a boxer; Bert Reid, his masseur; Larry Green, his trainer; Robert Shearer, his manager; Susan West, his fiancee; Mrs. Madox, his mother
The plays produced by Cecil McGivern these two short plays have one thing in common - a first-class surprise ending. Call for an Author involves many more characters than the two who find themselves talking on board the yacht of the famous Playwright Russell Calaman. Through his talk with the old seaman whom he finds on board, the mysterious visitor, Lee, reveals some complicated issues in the playwright's past. Neither of the two is, however, all that he might have seemed on first acquaintance, and - well, look out for the surprise at the end.
Big Moment is quite a different kind of story. Here is Andy Maddox fighting for the lightweight championship of the world. In his dressing room his mother and his fiancee sit while the fight is going on, listening to reports of it from time to time from his masseur, Bert Reid. Whatever happens Andy intends to retire after this fight. It is his 'big moment', and he takes it with a vengeance - not that there is not more to this rather tragic little story than the mere winning of a big boxing match.

The 'Welsh' Symphony, No. 4 in B flat minor, was written in 1884 for the Philharmonic Society of London, of which Cowen was permanent conductor from 1888 to
1892 In many ways it is the best of his six symphonies. In four movements, the opening Allegro has vigour and a fine sweep of style, and the slow movement, a little gem of only a few pages, is deliciously fresh and subtly imaginative. Both the boisterous Scherzo and the virile Finale are typical of Cowen's melodic and fluent style.
