Prelude and Fugue in A, Book 1
Prelude and Fugue in A minor, Book 1 Prelude and Fugue in G, Book 2
Prelude and Fugue in B flat minor, Book 2
This evening's programme of Bach's Preludes and Fugues represents the third of a series of fourteen recitals covering the whole of the ' Forty-Eight ', to be played by the leading Bach experts. The ' Forty-Eight ' are one of the greatest achievements in the history of piano music, for although the composer intended them ' for the use and profit of young musicians anxious to learn, and as a pastime for others already expert in the art', he created music that for depth of thought and expressive beauty is unsurpassed even in his own other great compositions.
The next recital in this series will take place on Friday, February 2, at 7.20 p.m.
