St Andrews, the course on Scotland's east coast widely regarded as the home of golf, is the testing setting for this 134th staging of the British Open.
Five years ago, Tiger Woods was the runaway winner the last time the event was held here but the American has found his dominance challenged by the likes of Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Phil Mickelson. The bid to be the first European winner since Paul Lawrie in is likely to be spearheaded by Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington, while there'll be an emotional welcome for three-time victor Jack Nicklaus as he makes his final appearance.

A lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA worked out that the odds in blackjack work differently to other games. He developed a system that tipped the odds and set off to Las Vegas with a bankroll from the Mob. But the alarmed casino authorities called science to their aid too.
