Coverage continues of the 129th Open. Steve Rider introduces today's play in the second round.
By tonight some golfers will know the worst - they have missed the cut at the championship, which this year takes place around the historic links of St Andrews in Scotland.
Among the players most likely to have the Claret Jug, rather than an early flight home, on their minds are Tiger Woods , who won the US Open by a record 15 shots last month, 1996 Open champion Tom Lehman , and Ulsterman Darren Clarke , whose form has propelled him to the top of the European Order of Merit this season.
On what became freaky Friday at Carnoustie a year ago, most bizarre of all were the birdies - a lot more than on the previous day but not enough to allow anyone to beat par after two rounds in wicked winds. By the end of play, Frenchman Jean Van de Velde was in the lead.
Commentary is provided by Peter Alliss , Alex Hay , Ken Brown , Jerry Pate , Mike Hughesdon ,
Beverly Lewis , Mark Roe , Julian Tutt , Denis Hutchinson ,
Gary Wolstenholme , Dougie Donnelly and Hazel Irvine. Highlights of the day's play can be seen at
9.30pm. (S)
