The Force 9.50pm BBC2
On one side is a group of militant animal-rights campaigners, on the other a farmer who breeds cats for animal testing and, in the middle, the police trying to keep the peace. The first programme in a new four-part documentary series following the work of Thames Valley Police focuses on one potential flashpoint in Oxfordshire. Reporter David Rose spent six months with the force, during which he examined concerns at the heart of modern policing, starting with public-order issues.
The film places the siege of Hillgrove Farm in Witney under surveillance, examining how the police cope with such hotly argued disputes. Will they be able to devote the resources necessary to protecting the farmer's business? And how can they prevent the protest from becoming a major. [NB this is how the article ends - missing word 'incident'?]
