Continuing the series about the natural history of North America. Into the Shining Mountains soaring majestically into the skies, the Rocky Mountains form the spine of the North American continent - a "great divide" that separates east from west and provides a daunting obstacle in the way of trade routes to the Pacific.
The first explorers - McKenzie, Lewis and Clark, Jedediah Smith - found themselves in the realm of mountain lion, grizzly bear, agile goats and bighorn sheep.
Though the prospect of gold and silver caused these mountain men to plunder the wildlife and mineral wealth of the American Indians' "shining mountains", it also led them to discover what is now one of the nation's greatest treasures: Yellowstone National Park. Narrated by Alan Ereira.

A controversial bid to take the movement over and to focus on profits has highlighted the Co-op's long-term vulnerability. So what does the future hold for the institution?
