The game in eastern Europe following the collapse of communism proved unfathomable to many people, and the teams have not enjoyed much success, although gifted individuals abounded. The stories of Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade and Dynamo Kiev provide a fascinating insight into the eastern bloc teams, some of which were drawn from the Communist Party or the army.
