Sense of Betrayal
When Russian soldiers finally left Afghanistan in 1989, American interest in the region waned. But the dangerous legacy of US influence in the war was an enormous supply of arms to Islamic fighters and a revival of the concept of Jihad - Holy War. As Stephen Sackur reports, neighbouring Pakistan is now a haven for Muslim militants who feel betrayed by the West and are prepared to die in any Jihad.
