The 1986 Formula One World Championship German Grand Prix
NIGEL MANSELL was on top of the World - the Drivers'
World Championship - as he began this afternoon's Hockenheim race.
British fans were expecting him to increase his title chances with a win around the 4.2-mile circuit today after the dramatic British Grand Prix two weeks ago.
In 1976 James Hunt won a restarted Brands Hatch race - and went on to take the World crown. Will history repeat itself for Mansell a decade later?
Spare a thought, too, for veteran Jacques Laffitte , injured at Brands. Today's race would have made the Frenchman the most experienced Grand Prix driver of all time. Commentators
